The season’s goal: challenging for the Japanese national title
Looking ahead to the new season, RIO regards winning the Japanese national title as one of his most important goals. The Kinoshita Trophy also gives him a valuable opportunity to assess his current form and rebuild his competition rhythm.
After the Olympics: rediscovering form and motivation
Recovery after the Olympic cycle was not entirely smooth at first. As this event progressed and he returned more fully to high-level training and competition, his motivation grew noticeably, while his mood and overall condition gradually improved.
In particular, the opportunity to train and exchange ideas with skaters from overseas brought fresh stimulation to his daily routine and strengthened his enthusiasm for training.
From August to September: building towards international competition
Japanese skaters move into a relatively busy preparation period from late summer to early autumn. RIO noted that, compared with Russia, where there are relatively few major events in September, Japan usually schedules significant competitions during this period.
His preparation follows a clear progression: local competitions in early August provide a warm-up and a chance to make adjustments, followed by a training camp to improve his physical and technical condition, and then Challenger Series events in September.
This sequence of domestic competition, concentrated training and international events allows him to build competitive intensity gradually. Training and competing alongside skaters from different countries also helps him continue to find better form.
Memories of Milan: hoping to return to the Olympics as an athlete
He previously travelled to Milan to watch the Winter Olympics as a spectator. The city made a strong impression on him, and seeing so many outstanding athletes perform in person made the experience especially memorable.
As a new Olympic cycle begins, that experience has become a fresh source of motivation.
His hope is that next time he will be on Olympic ice as a competitor, rather than watching from the stands.
