LB: Finding a New Season’s Voice

The ideas behind the choreography

### Building on an exhibition program

The response to last season’s exhibition helped shape the team’s thinking for the new season. They took suggestions on board and retained some of the elements that had resonated with audiences.

The music was suggested by a young creative contributor, with the aim of finding a distinctive sound that would reveal the skaters’ personalities. Early ideas included a more traditional or elaborate opening. Ultimately, the team simplified the concept, focusing on its central emotion to make the program more direct and powerful.

### Three emotional chapters

The program follows three emotional stages, or fragments of a life. It begins with confrontation and tension between the two skaters, before moving towards a more mature love and acceptance of oneself: enjoying the moment and being true to who one is.

Through that progression, the skaters hope to communicate their love of skating and offer something individual and sincere. They feel confident that the concept can express their growth and maturity.

Plans for the exhibition

The skaters confirm that they will take part in the Shanghai Trophy gala, continuing their previous collaboration.

Although they had tried this kind of exhibition only twice before, the response from audiences in Britain, Japan and China was very positive. That encouragement persuaded them to retain and refine it.

They are aware that organisers and audiences now have high expectations. Alongside their competitive programs, they will prepare a dedicated exhibition piece in response to that enthusiasm for concept-driven performance.

Competing in China

They value this early-season event as an opportunity to test themselves before the Grand Prix series. When their coach asked whether they wanted to return, they agreed without hesitation: the strong field offers valuable competitive experience.

They also appreciate the atmosphere. Performing in front of a large, enthusiastic audience is both enjoyable and challenging.

Editorial note: This section of the Chinese notes calls the event “Cup of China” while also describing it as preparation before the Grand Prix series. That naming is inconsistent with the Shanghai Trophy context; the event name in this passage requires confirmation.

Beyond the rink

This trip has largely been spent in Shanghai, leaving little time to explore other Chinese cities or attractions. Given the country’s scale, they find it difficult to name a favourite city, but hope to travel more widely and learn more about China in the future.
