Ren Junfei / Xing Jianing: Building a Partnership on Home Ice
Bringing training quality into competition
Ren Junfei and Xing Jianing are pleased with their experience at the Shanghai Trophy. Competing at home felt special, and they believe they were able to reproduce their training level, delivering the elements and performance they had prepared.
Learning from the leading teams
The field included several of the world’s leading ice dance teams, among them the Italian couple. Ren and Xing note how a long-established partnership can develop a deep, instinctive understanding between its two skaters.
As a relatively new team, they are still building that connection. Their priority is to strengthen their understanding of one another, do the best work they can and close the gap in coordination and partnership quality.
Exploring new styles
The interviewer praises the assurance of their performance, from the music choice to their movement on the ice.
Looking ahead, the team is interested in blues—a style they had originally considered for this season—as well as programs set to pop music. They remain open to exploring different forms of expression.
The skaters they look up to
Asked which ice dancers they most admire from the Olympic eras of Sochi, PyeongChang and Beijing, they mention Charlie White and his partner, the Sochi Olympic champions.
Their ambition is to learn from those role models, continue improving and keep moving forward as a team.
