Translated from the Chinese article published by MS Sport Media.
At the 2025 Cup of China, Zhu Yi introduced her new short program to *Stand By Me*. A steady performance and strong technical execution earned her 63.39 points, a new personal best in the short program.
She had wanted something more uplifting for the new season. Her choreographer suggested *Stand By Me*, and she immediately liked it.
The song also carries a more personal meaning: throughout her journey, people have continued to support her and stay by her side.
“This song means a lot, because so many people have always supported me and stood by me.”
Looking back from this new Olympic cycle to the one leading into Beijing, Zhu believes her greatest change has been mental.
She acknowledges that, in the previous cycle, she had relatively little experience of major international competitions and was not fully prepared psychologically for those occasions. More competition and training have helped her approach the rink with a more mature perspective.
“Compared with the last Olympic cycle, the biggest change has been in my mindset.”
She was happy that, in this Cup of China short program, she could deliver what she knew she was capable of. More than chasing a single result, she now wants to keep moving forward and find breakthroughs from one competition to the next.
That ambition carried into her hopes for the following day: “I hope the free skate will be as complete as it is in training—or even better.”
In the free skate, mistakes on the early jumps interrupted her momentum. She regrouped and kept going, finishing the program with 99.27 points and a competition total of 162.66.
From the companionship expressed in *Stand By Me* to her reflections on the previous Olympic cycle, Zhu seems clearer about how she wants to meet the demands of competition:
Keep moving forward, while remembering the people who have always stood beside her.
