MS Sport Media|2026

Alexandra Trusova: A Comeback Gold, but the Celebrations Can Wait
MS Sport Media | Post-competition interview at the 2026 Denis Ten Memorial Challenge
After winning her first gold medal since returning to competition, Alexandra Trusova said she was pleased with her performance, but had yet to fully savour the victory.
“I didn’t expect everything to go so smoothly. Perhaps having fewer expectations actually helped me skate better.”
Trusova believes there is still considerable room for improvement. She had considered attempting different quadruple jumps in competition, but ultimately chose a more measured approach.
“Three competitions don’t tell you everything. I’ll celebrate properly at the end of the season.”
Looking ahead, she made clear that she hopes to secure assignments to two Grand Prix events.
“It doesn’t matter whether the flight takes 30 hours or four. Even if I’m told just three days before the competition, I’m ready to go.”
Mikhail’s Canadian visa was still being processed, however, which could affect his ability to accompany her to the event in Canada.
Trusova also recounted an unexpected complication at the rink: a small metal bear-shaped ornament was stuck to the ice in the area where she intended to perform her Lutz–toe loop combination. The discovery unsettled her before the skate and forced her to adjust her take-off location at short notice.
She acknowledged feeling considerable pressure at this competition. The thought that she needed to win to improve her prospects for further opportunities intensified her nerves—something even her coaches could sense.
Trusova also confirmed that she would withdraw from the Budapest event she had originally planned to enter. After a succession of competitions, a recent illness and limited recovery time, she wants to rest, gradually regain her best form and reassess her toe loop.
Her first comeback gold is a beginning. The longer-term ambition remains a return to the highest levels of international competition.
